The employer who wants his religious employee to work on Saturday commits no discrimination, Czech ombudsman Pavel Varvarovsky said today, commenting on the case of two employees who had turned to him with their problem.

In Otakar Motejl we have lost a man whose wisdom and untiring service to others made him a role model to all. In his youth he was a scout, and right up to the very last moments of his life he was a shining example of one who upheld the scout oath – to be prepared to help one's country and fellow men with all one's soul and body. Such people are rare in Czech public life.

Zástupkyně ochránce ukončila šetření a vydala závěrečné stanovisko s návrhem opatření k nápravě ve věci postupu krajských úřadů, příp. Magistrátu hlavního města Prahy při rozhodování o udělení registrace nestátním zdravotnickým zařízením, v nichž by byla zdravotní péče poskytována porodními asistentkami, a to včetně provádění fyziologických porodů. Šetření vedla z vlastní iniciativy na základě informací z médií, které vzbuzovaly vážné pochybnosti o jednotném postupu příslušných správních orgánů vůči žadatelům o registraci.
